During the last decade, in the world of modern plastic surgery, facial fat injections, as well as in other parts of the body (breast, hands, problematic areas, cellulite) provides a modern, effective and human friendly injectable material, which is obtained by our body itself and through the performance of the proper technique provide permanent results.
Why fat injections?
Fat transfer is a small operation through which fat is taken from certain parts of the body and injected into other problematic parts of the body so as to improve the reduced volume image of the problematic area.
The great advantage that fat injections have is that we use autologous material (ie from our own body), which after taking and transferring it to a specific body part corrects volumetrically the area.
Fat is a living tissue of our body, thus it needs a special technique while taking it and channeling it so that the fatty tissue in the recipient area to be able to have a blood flow and become a living part of the human body in order for the result to be permanent.
Furthermore, another tremendous advantage of fat addition is that fatty tissue contains the highest number of stem cells in the body so after a fat injection besides the correction of the volume issue of the area, we have a total regeneration, renewal of the whole area in which fat has been added due to that enormous quantity of stem cells contained therein.
How is the procedure performed?
When the procedure concerns body areas such as the mouth and the arms we have small fat injections and thus the procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Through a small incision, less than 1mm, and with the help of a tiny suction cannula, we insert the fat which afterwards is being obtained into tiny needles.
Thereafter the fat is processed and injected at the pre-decided points ie Face, hands, etc.
This procedure is performed under aseptic conditions.
Are there any swellings, bruises after the injection process?
In most cases there is a slight swelling or edema which subsides after 2 days and in most cases the patient returns to daily activities the following day.
In which areas we can have fat injections and what do they correct?
FACE = correction of dark circles and lack of volume under the eyes as well as reduction of the bunny line, cheekbone, upper and lower lip volume increase. From the very first hour the patient is able to observe not only the volumetric change but also the youthful appearance, texture, and face brightness, due to the amount of stem cells contained in the fat.
HANDS = the aged dorsal surface of the hands due to loss of collagen and lack of skin fat, is refreshed and renewed due to the fat injections. Again, the operation is performed in the doctor’s office and there is a slight swelling which subsides in 2-3 days.
Large fat injections aiming to increase the gluteal, as well as the breast are performed in a clinic.
Has the transplanted fat a lasting effect?
If the procedure of taking and injecting is performed with the proper technique then 70-80% of the fat lives, gets the normal blood supply and the result is permanent.
Are there any risks from a fat injection?
The main risks that may occur – like in any other surgical operation – are a possible infection or no blood supply resulting to the formation of granulation tissue. A case extremely rare and thus the risk is practically negligible.
In conclusion
We have to mention that the technique described above provides the most modern, natural and most permanent result that anyone can achieve. Except from the volumetric improvement, provides total renewal and regeneration to the area that has been injected due to the enormous regenerative capacity of the stem cells contained in the fat.
